The Israeli women's water polo team lost tonight (Monday) to the Greek team 14:4 in the quarter-finals of the European Championship which is being held in Split.
The players in blue and white, for whom this was their first and historic appearance in the quarter-finals of the continental championship, will now continue to the ranking games 5-8 with the goal being to screw in the top seven and qualify for the world championship to be held next year in Japan.
The first six will qualify for sure, with the seventh team leaving a chance to qualify for the world tournament.
Israel will meet host Croatia on Wednesday, where a win will ensure entry into the top six and the coveted ticket.
The Greeks opened with a quick goal in their first attack of the game, and immediately after that Israel managed to squeeze a penalty but did not take advantage of it.
Greece continued with a good offensive ability and took a six-goal lead.
Five seconds to the end of the first quarter, an accurate penalty by Maria Bogachenko reduced the score and at the end of the quarter it was 6:1 to Greece.
The second quarter was tighter when the Greeks scored twice and a goal by Nofer Hochberg reduced the teams to half time when the scoreboard shows 8:2.
In the third quarter, the Greeks managed to increase the gap by two more goals and at the end 10:2.
In the last quarter, goals by Shonit Strugo and Alma Jacobi, in addition to Greece's four, determined the result of the game 15:4.

The day after tomorrow (18:30) as mentioned, the national team will meet the host Croatia in a match where the winner will secure the ticket to the World Championship.
