Ten biathletes from the Werdenfelser team competed at the German Championships in Oberhof.

Two in particular were convincing.

Oberhof - Around 20 degrees, sunshine, asphalt track, scooters under your feet.

The biathletes had to cope with these conditions last weekend in Oberhof at the German Championship.

Bernhard Kröll, base trainer Werdenfels, was also there and followed the races of his protégés with interest.

On Sunday after the final competition of the German Championships, he practically completed his own climate change.

Kröll got into the car together with his fellow coach Albert Neuner and after a 15-minute drive they reached Suhl.

They exchanged 20 degrees of sunshine for minus 15 degrees.

In a cold chamber they are still testing the ammunition with which the entire Zoll ski team will compete in winter until noon today.

Kröll's interim conclusion: he is satisfied with the batches,

which he and Neuner received for the test.

He is sometimes less satisfied with the performance of his protégés from the Werdenfels team at the DM. Kröll draws a mixed conclusion.

Frühwirt deliberately skips the pursuit, despite third place on the grid

A total of nine from his team and Murnau's David Zobel started in Oberhof.

Juliane Frühwirt was the first to convince.

The native of Wallgau started in the women's singles and sprint and took two bronze medals home with her.

Kröll's comment: "Really great performances." Frühwirt himself is also satisfied with himself: "The results make me confident." The 24-year-old deliberately skipped the pursuit, despite the best chances for more precious metal.

Why?

"Because a medal at the DM is more or less of no interest to anyone in winter." That's why Frühwirt also started in its weaker disciplines.

"Fighting woman against woman is my strength anyway, so I wanted to improve in the races where I'm running alone against the clock." Focus on further development.

One of the strongest juniors at the DM: Magdalena Rieger from SC Mittenwald.

Magdalena Rieger one of the strongest juniors

Magdalena Rieger from SC Mittenwald did similarly well in the championships in Oberhof.

The junior (born in 2003) impressed in the individual as 13th, in the sprint as 17th and as 19th in the pursuit.

If you look at the pure result list of the juniors, Rieger always placed between fourth and sixth place.

"That's what we were aiming for, so we're very satisfied.

She has improved on the distance and in shooting,” praises Kröll.

Marina Sauter's individual performance on the first day also made him happy.

"Seventh place was very decent." However, the SC Partenkirchen biathlete was not able to maintain this level in the sprint and pursuit, finishing 16th and 18th.

“Over the three days she got some physical problems.

We have to work on that,” says Kröll.

Werdenfels men disappoint

Tim Grotian also has a lot of work to do.

The man from Mittenwald missed out on the top 20 in all three competitions, mainly because he made too many mistakes on the shooting range.

“He always comes up with a series that completely fails him.

It's the same in training," says Kröll.

David Zobel (SC Partenkirchen) also showed unusual weaknesses with the rifle.

In the individual he was 14th, in the sprint he did not get past eleventh place.

Not enough for the 26-year-old, who wants to start in the World Cup from the start this year.

Only in the pursuit did he show what he is capable of, still improving to fifth place.

After corona infection: Hanna Kebinger suspends DM

Hanna Kebinger was not able to prove her current performance at all.

The Garmisch-Partenkirchner missed the DM – on the advice of the doctors.

Kebinger had contracted the corona virus and then lay flat for four days and also developed more severe symptoms.

“Your lung mucosa had become inflamed.

The doctors wanted her to recover 100 percent and only train in the medium stress range," says Kröll.
