Borussia Dortmund started the Champions League season with a win.

In Dortmund, the Bundesliga club won 3-0 (2-0) against FC Copenhagen, goals were scored by Marco Reus (35th minute), Raphaël Guerreiro (42nd) and Jude Bellingham (83rd).

Dortmund almost fell behind in the first minute when Copenhagen captain Zeca was able to finish unchallenged.

His low-range shot just missed the goal.

The hosts played with many substitutes, due to injuries BVB had eight players unavailable.

In the 22nd minute, Thorgan Hazard had to be substituted injured, Giovanni Reyna came on for him.

It wasn't spectacular, but there were still chances for Dortmund: First Anthony Modeste (9th), who made his first Champions League appearance at the age of 34, missed after a cross from right winger Julian Brandt (9th).

After a similar move, Reus didn't hit the ball properly in the penalty area (32').

Double strike before the break decides the game

The lead only came through a flash of inspiration from Brandt, who played past several Copenhageners to Reus in the center from the right.

The BVB captain took the ball well, left an opponent standing and shot in the right corner.

Copenhagen goalkeeper Mathew Ryan was still there, but couldn't prevent the goal (35').

Shortly thereafter, Guerreiro made it 2-0.

After Reus won the ball just outside the Copenhagen penalty area, the Portuguese played a one-two with Giovanni Reyna, who had come on for the injured Thorgan Hazard, and pushed in from close range (42').

The second half started with a moment of shock for Dortmund.

Lukas Lerager got a shot from around five meters from a corner, but BVB substitute keeper Alexander Meyer prevented the goal from coming up (46th).

For the 31-year-old it was the competitive debut for BVB, goalkeeper Gregor Kobel is currently on a break with a torn muscle fibre.

Meyer didn't have to intervene decisively until the end of the game, Dortmund, on the other hand, managed to make it 3-0 (83rd) through Bellingham.
