Schongau – New course record, successful local heroes and unlucky falls.

There was a lot on offer at the eighth edition of the Schongau Triathlon.

Highlights from the point of view of the host Tri-Team Schongau were Nina Koller's Bavarian championship title and third place in the women's regional league competition.

"The number of participants also points in the right direction," said Tri-Team boss Wolfgang Ahrens.

A good 350 triathletes had registered for the demanding route through the Lech, the Schongau area and the old town - over 100 more than in the previous year.

Things went particularly well for Nina Koller, who came out on top at the Bavarian championships over the Olympic distance of 1500 meters swimming, 40 kilometers cycling and 10 kilometers running.

"I've never won anything," said Koller, beaming.

Shortly after her, her teammate Kornelia Saal finished as runner-up.

"Nina set a decent pace on the bike and the resulting lead gave me motivation to run," said Saal, who, together with Koller, clearly dominated the swim in the 17.7-degree cold Lech.

"In the end, my toes almost froze," admitted Koller.

Things didn't go so well for Judith Horner from the Tri-Team team, which competed in the regional league competition in Schongau.

Horner suffered injuries to his elbows, hips and neck in a fall on the bike course near Schwabbruck.

Their teammates Sabine Nagel, Daniela Höfler and Simone Reithmeir continued to fight undeterred and ended up tying for third place with Bayreuth.

The fastest woman from Schongau was Nagel, who achieved the third best time in the overall ranking with 2:21:18 hours.

The dominant women from Aloha Immenstadt, who also took first and second place in the individual competition, won the team victory.

The rain-soaked road also caused a few falls for the regional league men.

One of the victims was Simon Langwieser from the Tri-Team Schongau.

Despite this, he finished sixth together with Lukas Krämer, Jan Heinrich, Sami Ritzmann and Lukas Horner.

The best Schongauer was the Ironman proven Krämer, who finished fourth after 2:00:30 hours.

"I still notice the after-effects of the long distance in Roth two weeks ago," said Krämer after his first start in Schongau.

"That's why the race was a bit of a grab bag for me, but I'm satisfied." Michael Ager (Kiwami TriTeam Grassau) secured victory, setting a new record of 1:56:22 hours.

"My tactic of going full attack when cycling worked well," said the winner,

The individual race over the Olympic distance was won by Lukas Michel (Water Friends Pullach, 2:04:15 hours), who fought a hot duel with the eventual second, Andreas Posch (WSV Bad Tölz, 2:04:34 hours) until the last lap delivered for the win.

In the women's category, Sigrid Mutscheller (SG Niederwangen, 2:18:13 hours) repeated last year's victory with a huge lead over Susanne Hafner (Viktoria Augsburg, 2:28:34 hours).

Nadine Bender (TriTeam Schongau) came second in the TW30 age group.

Local heroes also made it onto the podium in the sprint distance.

Tri-Team athlete René Tretschok needed 1:06:34 hours to swim 500 meters, cycle 20 kilometers and run 5 kilometers.

He took second place behind the winner Michael Enderle (TSG Söfingen, 1:05:50 minutes) and won the TM20 age group.

In addition, other Schongauers achieved class wins over the short distance: Jakob Landes (Juniors), Jakob Ramberger (TM 70) and Margit Mayr-Henseleit (TW50).

As in the previous year, the “Raiffeisenbank Pfaffenwinkel” with Thomas Landes, Martin Stechele and Stefan Fichtl came out on top in the eleven seasons.

"That was another great event," said Schongau's Mayor Falk Sluyterman at the award ceremony.

Ahrens was also happy - he could live with the short rain showers during the race: "We got away with the weather with a black eye."
