The DFL has canceled matchdays 17 to 19 in the Bundesliga.

FC Bayern receives Eintracht Frankfurt in the top game at the start of the second half of the season.

Munich/Frankfurt – The DFL has announced the schedule for matchdays 17 to 19 in the Bundesliga.

This means that three more games in the national competition after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar have been precisely scheduled.

However, the league will continue on January 20th with the 16th matchday.

The rescheduled matchdays of FC Bayern in 2023

Matchday 17: FC Bayern - 1. FC Köln (January 24, 8:30 p.m.)

Matchday 18: FC Bayern - Eintracht Frankfurt (January 28, 6:30 p.m.)

Matchday 19: VfL Wolfsburg - FC Bayern (February 5, 5:30 p.m.)

FC Bayern with two home games within five days in the Bundesliga

The last match day of the first half of the Bundesliga season ends with an English week.

The Bundesliga teams compete on Tuesday and Wednesday.

FC Bayern welcomes 1. FC Köln on Tuesday evening, January 24th.

On Matchday 18, FCB will meet Eintracht Frankfurt in the top game.

Thus, Julian Nagelsmann's team has two home games within a few days.

Only eight days later, the German record champions will be guesting in Wolfsburg on Sunday, February 5th at 5:30 p.m.

It is the team's first away game in the Bundesliga in 2023. FC Bayern will not even play at the "traditional" Bundesliga time of 3:30 p.m. during this period.

Novelty for the second half of the season: the opening game in the second half of the Bundesliga cannot be seen on free TV

The opening game of the Bundesliga is usually broadcast on free TV on matchdays 1 and 18.

Sat. 1 secured the rights this year and already broadcast the season opener between Frankfurt and FC Bayern.

But due to the World Cup in Qatar, the broadcaster decided to broadcast Bundesliga games on free TV on matchdays 14, 15 and 16.

The reason for this postponement is the long winter break between match days 15 and 16 due to the 2022 World Cup. Sat. 1 has secured the rights for a total of four Bundesliga matches and is spreading the three open games over the match days mentioned.

Both FC Bayern's game against Bremen on matchday 14 and the start of the new year in Leipzig will be broadcast on free TV.

DFL plans new kick-off time for the Bundesliga from 2025

In recent years, the matchdays in the Bundesliga have become more and more fragmented, and there are now up to six different kick-off times.

New kick-off times are debated every five years, but the last rights were only granted in 2020.

Accordingly, the possible innovations will only come into force from 2025.

The DFL has now approached the 36 teams in the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga and made the suggestion that the top game on Saturday should be postponed by two hours.

The idea was overwhelmingly positive, but this change is not yet a done deal.
