World Champion Max Verstappen has secured pole position for the Formula 1 finale in Abu Dhabi.

The Red Bull driver relegated his team-mate Sergio Pérez to second place on the Yas Marina Circuit on Saturday.

For Verstappen it was the seventh pole position of the year.

Third in qualifying was Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari.

After the double victory in Brazil at the end of the season, the Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell only finished fifth and sixth.

Vettel and Schumacher keep up well at the farewell

Aston Martin driver Sebastian Vettel managed to finish ninth on his last race for a starting position.

The 35-year-old ends his career after the Grand Prix on Sunday (2 p.m. / Sky).

Mick Schumacher im Haas also achieved a good result with starting position 13.

It's too late to continue working for the racing team: Nico Hülkenberg will take Schumacher's place in the Haas car next season.

This makes it unlikely that Schumacher will drive in Formula 1 next season.

The last vacant cockpit in the motorsport premier class will be awarded by Williams to the American Logan Sargeant.
