The British pop singer Dua Lipa, who only wants to visit Qatar "when the country has fulfilled all human rights commitments", waved him off, as did Rod Stewart, who said he declined a highly paid offer.
Instead, popular South Korean band BTS and US rapper Lil Baby are set to perform.
"Hayya Hayya", the official World Cup 2022 song, will be performed by Qatari singer Aisha, American-Nigerian singer Davido and US artist Trinidad Cardona.
