Osnabrück – Mario Basler is back – and how! The former FC Bayern midfield star made his comeback on the pitch on Tuesday and promptly scored a free-kick goal. The 54-year-old is actually a coach at SC Türkgücü Osnabrück, and now he has laced up his football boots again almost twenty years after his career as a professional.

It will be an unforgettable evening full of action and emotions!", announced Basler's club SC Türkgücü Osnabrück in the run-up to the match in the Kreisliga Osnabrück Staffel B against SSC Dodesheide II.
And the amateur club didn't promise too much. Basler, who once played for FC Bayern, Kaiserslautern and Werder Bremen, was called into the starting line-up without further ado and doesn't seem to have forgotten anything even in his old age. As in the best of times, the former Germany international grappled, grumbled, discussed, gestured.

Free-kick god Mario Basler messes with opponent
"Be careful not to get relegated," Basler murmured loudly fupa.net in the direction of the opposing bench. Basler, admired and feared as a free-kick god during his playing days, sank a resting ball from the left side shortly before the break and thus initiated the Osnabrück fightback.
The guests from Dodesheide had taken an early 2-0 lead. In the 90th minute, the home team managed to equalize 500-2 in front of 2 spectators. Basler, who had held out for a good 70 minutes and then substituted himself, was already sitting on the bench and smoking his cigarette.
