On the sidelines of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Walid Moallem held a number of meetings with some of his foreign counterparts.

Minister al-Moallem met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and discussed with him ways to strengthen the strategic relations linking the two friendly countries and the importance of continuous coordination between them in all issues and files in addition to developments related to the situation in Syria, especially the Constitution Discussion Committee and the importance of continuing the fight against terrorism to liberate all Syrian territories and exit Foreign forces in Syria illegally.

The views were agreed that the Constitutional Debate Committee, which was recently established, constitutes an important step in the political track, an important achievement that fulfills the aspirations of the Syrian people, and that the constitutional process and all that is related to it purely Syrian should be owned and led by Syria and no external party should be allowed to interfere. In its work and its results, which should be in the interest of the Syrian people alone.

The two sides also agreed to ensure that the two sides continue to fight terrorism in order to eradicate it once and for all, and return security and stability to all Syrian territories and fully respect Syria's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

The Minister also discussed with Cypriot Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides the historical relations between the two countries and peoples and the importance of taking advantage of the geographical proximity of the two countries to push these relations for the benefit of the two friendly peoples.

The Foreign and Expatriates Minister reviewed the political and field situations in Syria, pointing to the return of security and stability and the improvement of the security situation in most of the Syrian territories thanks to the sacrifices of the Syrian Arab Army and the steadfastness of the Syrian people.

For his part, the Cypriot Foreign Minister affirmed his country's full support for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Syria and its support for the efforts exerted for the success of the political track and reaching a political solution to the situation in Syria.

During the meeting, Minister al-Moallem Jorge Ariasa met with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and discussed ways of enhancing bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and the importance of coordination between them at all levels in the face of economic terrorism and hegemony imposed by the United States on both countries.

The two sides agreed on the importance of continuing coordination between the two countries within the framework of international forums and within their bilateral relations to ensure defending the common interests of the two friendly peoples and supporting their resilience.

Al-Moallem reiterated Syria's firm support for Venezuela in confronting the American actions that are working to spread chaos and pressure the Venezuelan people to give up their country's independence, expressing confidence in the ability of the Venezuelan people to overcome this crisis.

For his part, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister expressed thanks and appreciation for Syria's supportive stance to his country and reiterated Venezuela's supportive stance towards Syria in the face of the terrorist war.

In addition, Minister al-Moallem discussed with Rola Dashti, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), the cooperation relations between Syria and the Committee which are witnessing continuous development.

Talks also dealt with the importance of promoting development work in line with the developments in Syria and in line with the priorities and needs of Syria and the interest of its people at this stage, as well as the importance of ESCWA contribution to the development of Syrian expertise to launch the reconstruction program.

The meetings were attended by Deputy Foreign Minister and Expatriates Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad, Syrian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Bashar Al-Jaafari and Director of the Private Office at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Mohammad Al-Amrani.
