(CNN) - Mass protests broke out in Hong Kong on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

Man shot by the police: police have confirmed that an agent shot and wounded an 18-year-old man. This is the first time lethal force is used in almost four months of riots. The decision to shoot was "legal and reasonable," said the police commissioner. He confirmed that the victim is still recovering in the hospital.

More than 180 people were arrested: Hong Kong police arrested more than 180 people in protests throughout Hong Kong on Tuesday, police said. The police commissioner described the demonstrations of the day as the "most violent scenes" he has seen in the city. At least 25 agents were injured in the protests, he said.

Meanwhile, in Beijing: on Tuesday there were elaborate celebrations in the Chinese capital to commemorate the anniversary. The day began with a speech in the morning of Chinese President Xi Jinping. Then there was a military and massive parade, in which new weapons were shown and the military might of China was shown. The celebration ended with an exhibition of fireworks combined with musical and cultural performances.
