Media report: BND has so far unknown Amri video

On a mobile video Anis Amri is said to have announced the attack on the Berlin Christmas market weeks before the fact. Why did not the BND later hand over the video to the investigators?

A short clip raises questions: The Federal Intelligence Service (BND) is according to media reports a previously unknown video of the Berlin Christmas market assassin Anis Amri before, in which he announced the terrorist attack - weeks before the act.

As reported by "Süddeutsche Zeitung", NDR and WDR, the foreign intelligence service should inform the investigators of the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) in March 2017 about the existence of the recording, but at the same time have refused to give the probably recorded with a mobile video to the investigation files ,

Even the committees of inquiry of the Bundestag and various state parliaments, which work on the investigation of the case, it would have apparently not shown, it was said. According to the media, there are no indications that the BND or other German authorities knew the Amri video in 2016 even before its act. The BND refused to comment on the case. "In principle, the BND only reports to the Federal Government and the competent, secretive committees of the German Bundestag on any findings and operational aspects of its work," a spokesman said.

The BND reportedly received the video from a foreign intelligence service. His refusal to pass it on was therefore justified by the confidentiality with which he was obliged to serve abroad. The eleven-second shot is said to have been made in November 2016, ie a few weeks before the attack on the Christmas market at the Berlin Memorial Church on 19 December 2016.

Amri had shot a Polish truck driver, raced his vehicle into the crowd and killed eleven more people and injured dozens. In the video, Amri says in Arabic, "Oh Allah, these pigs, we come to behead them!" He holds a pistol in his hand, which according to the reports is supposed to be the weapon with which he later shot the truck driver.

So far, only a fan video Amris was known

At the time of admission, the temporarily observed Amri was no longer considered to be acutely dangerous to the security authorities. He frequented increasingly in the drug milieu and visited only irregularly the mosque. The FDP chairman in the Committee of Inquiry of the Bundestag, Benjamin Strasser, called for clarification. "The BND must explain when it received this video, but even then, the question remains as to why the security authorities and the federal government are constantly blocking and torpedoing the investigative work of the investigation committee."

Left-wing domestic politician Martina Renner said: "Intelligence agencies, whether local or foreign partners, appear to have no interest in persecuting perpetrators, even in a serious terrorist attack, or in lifting jihadist networks. The work-up of the mistakes in the right-wing terrorist NSU showed that "ignorance of the law enforcement authorities" could quickly turn into sabotage of investigative work.

So far it was known that Amri had recorded a Bekennervideo before the act in Berlin, in which he swore allegiance to the Islamic State (IS) militia and announced an assassination. The IS had published this video on the Internet after the fact. After the crime, the police seized and analyzed two cell phones from Amri - the now-publicized video is said not to have been. However, some members of the parliamentary inquiry committee have been wondering for some time whether another mobile phone might have been found at Amri after his death in Italy. He had been shot dead by police officers on the run through Italy a few days after the crime.

The "time" had already reported in February on a secret paper of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), according to Amri, according to intelligence from US intelligence services on 23 October 2016, a previously unknown video to an IS terrorist in Libya has sent.
