Although the hand-made carpet industry, like other industries, has been damaged by the terrorist war in Syria, the revival of this industry is gradually returning as the Directorate of Social Affairs and Labor in Sweida is working hard to revive it.

The Director of Social Affairs and Labor in Sweida, Bushra Jarbou, explained that during the past few months, the carpet manufacturing units, which have been stalled for years, have been re-activated in the villages and towns of Khalkhala, Arman, Al-Ghariyah, Dhibin, Tall Al-Louz and work is currently underway to reactivate the farm town unit and other units in the coming period.

These steps, Jarbou told SANA's correspondent, are part of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor's plans to empower the Syrian countryside and revive its hand-made carpet industry as an ancient heritage industry and provide employment for many women.

The activation of the units and the training of women in the carpet industry, according to the director of affairs, with their empowerment in the areas of education and computer, manual skills, first aid and health awareness.

At the end of the seventies of the last century, 36 units contributed to accelerating the process of rural development, but a number of them stopped during the past years due to the crisis.
