BEIRUT (Reuters) - Lebanese protesters continued their protests over worsening living conditions and cabinet decisions to impose new tariffs, including communications charges, as protesters in the Lebanese capital continued to cut off Beirut's airport road and ignite tires while clouds of smoke covered the area.
Despite the security forces' attempt to open the Beirut airport road, the convoys of cars heading to the airport are parked in place, while some passengers go to the airport on foot or by motorcycles.
The Lebanese Amal Movement announced its support for the movement of demonstrators in the Lebanese areas, pointing out that it comes from "the suffering, suffering and natural rights of the people."
The movement said in a statement that "Amal Movement affirms its stand by the legitimate demands, which called for achieving them on several occasions, both in terms of preparing the budget or in terms of implementing the reform paper and calling for the declaration of an economic emergency." Popular groups are calling for an alert from the infiltration of "suspicious tools" to divert the claimed movements from their track.
In turn, the Syrian National Socialist Party said in a statement that the Lebanese denunciations of the tax policy are "a true and legitimate cry as a result of the worsening economic and social conditions and the absence of radical remedies."
The party said in a statement today that "the Lebanese government should have assumed its responsibilities and provided effective solutions to the worsening crises and not to impose new taxes that the Lebanese cannot afford."
In turn, the Lebanese People's Congress stressed in a statement the importance of peaceful popular movement until the achievement of its legitimate objectives, saying that "the government and the House of Representatives to resign immediately and the dismissal of the Governor of the Banque du Liban and the formation of a mini-government rescue of the competent."
For his part, Secretary General of the Nasserite Popular Organization Osama Saad said that the popular demonstrations witnessed in Lebanon "legitimate and right", calling for the preservation of its momentum and peacefulness.
