The South Florida Water Administration District (SFWMD) opened new calls for snake hunters. The decision was made following the invasion of Burmese python snakes in the Everglades region. According to the authorities, the species has generated a decrease of 90% of small mammals in the ecosystem. At the moment, the SFWMD has 25 hunters throughout the area, but has already received 2,600 applications from candidates who want the job. According to Edgar Santiago, a hunter in the area, they can catch up to 11 Burmese python snakes in a single day. Official reports show that from March 2017 to October of this year, 2,625 pythons have been hunted.
