Moscow-Sana

Russia renewed today its rejection of any attempts to interfere in Lebanon's internal affairs and support its sovereignty and independence.

This came during a meeting between the Russian president's special envoy to the Middle East and North Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, adviser to Lebanese President Amal Abu Zeid in Moscow today, where the two sides discussed the developments in Lebanon against the backdrop of the protests witnessed.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement today that the Russian side stressed its support for Lebanon's sovereignty, independence, unity and stability, stressing its firm stand to resolve all the “acute issues of the national agenda” by the Lebanese themselves within the legal framework and through a comprehensive dialogue in the interest of ensuring national consensus.

The Russian side, according to the statement, rejected any foreign attempts to exploit and fuel the existing difficulties faced by Lebanon.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has stressed that the protests in Lebanon are an internal matter and called for a solution through a comprehensive dialogue that allows the maintenance of political stability inside the country.

There have been demonstrations and sit-ins in many Lebanese areas since the 17th of last month to protest against the deteriorating living and economic conditions.
