The Russian Embassy in Damascus held a ceremony on the 90th anniversary of the birth of the late Russian Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Yevgeny Primakov.

In a speech, Assistant Foreign Minister Ayman Susan affirmed the great role of the late Primakov in laying the foundations and orientations of Russian foreign policy in the Middle East and strengthening his country's relations with the Arab world, pointing out that Primakov was a friend of the Arabs and sincere to their issues. He deservedly earned him the title of "Patriarch of Russian Foreign Policy" in the Middle East.

In a similar speech, the Russian Ambassador in Damascus Alexander Yevimov pointed out that Primakov established the new era in Russian foreign policy that continues to date. His famous work entitled "Turning over the Atlantic" in 1999 was one of the main points in contemporary history. Primakov decided to cancel his visit to the United States. He is on his way because of NATO's aggression against Yugoslavia.

Ambassador Yevimov pointed out that, thanks to Primakov's positions and decisions, the principle of "multi-directionalism" emerged during that period, thus establishing Russian foreign policy on the principles of multipolarity, mutual respect, pragmatism and independence.

For his part, Dr. Mohammad Maher Qabakibi, President of Damascus University, said that the late Primakov possessed extensive political and diplomatic experiences in the Arab region, mind, leadership and high academic level and was known for his respect for the Arab culture. Arab-Russian relations on the basis of respect and put Arab relations at the top of the agenda of Russian interests.

In a lecture focused on Primakov's life and the positions he held and highlighted the national and international positions that contributed to the formulation of Russian foreign policy and international relations between Dr. Nizar Jazzan, a professor of political science at the University of Damascus Establishing good relations with Asian countries.

Dr. Jazzan pointed out that he knew about Primakov's love for Syria and his desire to know its customs and traditions and was firmly convinced of the importance of Syria and its regional position in the region, as well as known for his knowledge of Arab affairs and known bold political decisions.

The ceremony was attended by a photo exhibition of the most prominent personalities that Primakov met during his career, Deputy Foreign Minister and Expatriates Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad, a number of heads and representatives of diplomatic missions accredited in Damascus and academic, party and trade union activities.

Primakov, a prominent Russian politician born on October 29, 1929, moved in his career between different professions thanks to his exceptional talents. He worked in the press, the security apparatus and the diplomatic corps. He held several government positions.
