MTR (0066) announced that as a member and project leader of the Northwest Rapid Transit Consortium (NRT), it has reached a cooperation agreement on extending the existing NRT Sydney Metro public-private partnership project.

The NRT public-private partnership includes a total value of $ 1.7 billion in contracts covering new trains and core parts of the railway system; and a total value of $ 2 billion in charge of the combined Northwest Line of the Metro, the NRT operation with the city and the Southwest Line until 2034 and Maintenance contract.

MTR will invest in this project and play a leading role in the project. The city, southwest line and subway northwest line will be merged into the same line from 2024. The MTR Corporation will also lead the operation.

The Chief Executive Officer of MTR Corporation, Mr. Jin Zepei, said that the Sydney Metro's fully automatic trains and cutting-edge railway technology are changing the local travel mode, and MTR is very honored to have the opportunity to further participate in this project.

The Northwest Line was opened in May this year

The Government of New South Wales, Australia, awarded an NRT public-private partnership contract in 2014, and has recently implemented an extension contract. Under the contract, NRT will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of Tallawong and Bankstown from 2024 to the entire 66-km Sydney Metro Line, with a total of 31 stations along the way.

The Northwest Line is part of the Sydney Metro and opened to traffic as early as May 26, 2019. The route will extend 30 kilometers to the city centre and southwest Sydney.
