The formation of a government in Saxony has been completed: CDU, Greens and SPD are presenting their coalition agreement for a joint government on Sunday in Dresden. This ends six weeks of negotiations.
As the three parties announced on Saturday evening, the future partners come together on Sunday afternoon in the state parliament again in large round. After that, Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU), SPD leader Martin Dulig and the two Green negotiators Katja Meier and Wolfram Günther want to present the contract.
Thus, the formation of government in the Free State on the home stretch. The CDU, SPD and the Greens had begun their coalition negotiations for the formation of a Kenya Alliance more than a month ago. The tripartite alliance is for the Saxon CDU under Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer the only way to organize a government-capable majority outside the AfD. The party was the second strongest force in the state election.
Substantial losses in the state election
In the state election on 1 September, the CDU came despite considerable losses, although again in first place. However, the previous black-red coalition lost its majority. In addition, the Greens passed by the SPD. The CDU had categorically ruled out coalitions with the Left and the AfD even before the election.
A 13-page exploratory paper has already set numerous goals, as well as positions where there is disagreement. For a long time it was unclear whether the negotiations between the parties would even succeed. This step has now succeeded Michael Kretschmer.
But the view over the border shows: It should not be easy anyway. Until now, Saxony-Anhalt has been the only Kenya coalition in Germany. Again and again, there are the pitfalls of the tripartite alliance in the political life - for example, when important decisions have to be postponed because of disagreements or the AfD the Alliance in between grazes.
