The solidarity of Karmi community for Syrian children is the essence of the campaign launched by Basma Association for the care of children with cancer under the title “One Million Basma” in which the love of giving was blended with great responsibility towards these children.

The campaign targeted Syrian society to be a partner and supporter of the Basma Society's transition in 2020 with significant tasks and to expand its services to all affected children throughout Syria with the contribution of an integrated team of the association's staff.

One of the difficulties faced by the work of "Basma" during the war Bolad explained that it is the high price of medicines and loss as a result of unfair economic sanctions against Syria, where they have been exceeded by providing treatment from friendly countries, pointing out to increase the proportion of Basma coverage of children infected to reach 70 percent thanks to the efforts of volunteers and community solidarity with her.

On the side of psychological support for children, the head of the psychological support committee in the association, Maysa Abdel-Al, reviewed the work of the committee through the establishment of daily recreational activities with the participation of children through works of art and tell stories and play with them in the hospital in addition to taking them picnics.

Pharmacist Sarah Abbas, a volunteer for 7 years in the society, talked about her experience in the Committee of psychological support and its great impact on children and alleviate their pain, adding: “After this experience we volunteers we draw strength from them and despite their fatigue we find them eagerly waiting to play with them and take us to a world of serenity and here lies The value of humanitarian action. ”

As for the parents of the children, the Chairperson of the Committee for the Awareness of Basak Dakkak stated that the Committee consists of a team of doctors whose task is to hold awareness lectures for parents and answer their queries and how to deal with their children because they also need psychological support and they can help their children during their treatment.

On the treatment strategy and the future medical plans of the association, Dr. Khaled Ghanem, Medical Director of the Basma Specialized Unit, explained that the development of diagnostic methods contributed to increase the rate of recovery from the disease in case of early detection, pointing out that the World Health Organization is currently seeking to increase the rate of cancer recovery in general to 60% by 2030.

On the goal of the campaign "million Basma," the Chairperson of the Committee on Public Relations and Finance Katya Shata is to achieve community support to ensure the continuation of the work of the Association and provide free medicinal treatment services for children by raising one million donations worth 1000 Syrian pounds per card, indicating that the campaign has achieved so far 40 percent of its plan.

Basma's support team included a group of public figures, artists and influential figures in the community, including the leader of the Syrian National Symphony Orchestra, Maestro Misak Baghdoprian, who spoke about his experience when he delivered a humanitarian message at a conference of world orchestra leaders in Spain, where he touched on the situation of music in Syria during the war and how The symphony has turned into a means of social humanitarian action, offering two concerts in collaboration with Basma as part of a fundraising campaign.

Bagboudrian continued: “This message reached the organizers of the conference who decided at the closing concert to return half of the donations to the Basma Society in Syria,” stressing the importance of loving humanitarian work and its positive effects on society.
