US President Donald Trump will deliver his state of the art speech on February 4, as usual, to the House of Representatives, where a few days ago he was impeached. House Democratic chairwoman Nancy Pelosi published a letter to Trump in Washington inviting the president to speak at a joint session of both chambers of congress. She expressed the invitation "in a spirit of respect for the constitution," emphasized the opposition leader.
The White House announced immediately afterwards that Trump had accepted the invitation. The President's annual speech on the state of the nation has a long tradition dating back to the early United States in the late 18th century. The President speaks to the representatives and senators gathered in the House of Representatives.

Special timing through impeachment
At the last speech on the state of the nation, Pelosi and Trump had a heated argument about the date for this speech. The background to this was the bitter budget dispute between Trump and the Democrats in Congress, which led to parts of the US government standing still for weeks.
The timing is also special this time, as Trump is likely to face impeachment proceedings in the Senate at the beginning of the new year for abuse of power and obstacles to congressional investigations. The House of Representatives voted with the majority of Democrats for impeachment during the week.

The schedule for impeachment is still unclear. Trumps Republicans have the majority in the Senate; it is highly unlikely that Trump could ultimately be removed from office.
