Some netizens initiated a Tsim Sha Tsui procession at 8 pm on Christmas Eve (24th), but the route and time of the procession were changed by the police. The sponsor finally announced the cancellation of the procession. However, from 7 pm onwards, a large number of demonstrators gathered in many areas of Hong Kong, which has also stimulated many rounds of police-civilian conflicts. The government issued a statement that it severely condemned "masked thugs" for illegally gathering in Hong Kong, Kowloon and the New Territories on Christmas Eve, and said that sabotage disrupted social order and affected the public's festive season, saying it was "really outrageous."

A government spokesman said that "thugs" damaged traffic lights, set up parachutes, blocked roads, damaged mall shops, set fires, and even attacked police officers. These acts have seriously disrupted the social order, affected citizens to celebrate the festival, and destroyed the atmosphere of the festival, which is really outrageous.

At the same time, it was pointed out that some people waved the flag of Hong Kong independence in Tsim Sha Tsui, saying that this move was to promote the independence of Hong Kong inconsistent with the constitutional and legal status of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region under the Basic Law, and it was not in line with the overall and long-term interests of Hong Kong society. Contradicts the established basic policies of Hong Kong.
