Democratic candidate: Bloomberg's presidential campaign took advantage of the work of women in detention

2019-12-24T21:44:16.050Z

Billionaire Michael Bloomberg's presidential campaign was supported by women who made calls to him - from prison. Bloomberg responded with a public statement.

Billionaire Michael Bloomberg's presidential campaign has used inmates of a US prison to call Bloomberg, according to a report by The Intercept. Accordingly, the Bloomberg campaign hired a company that operates call centers - and employed prisoners from state prisons there. At least one woman prison in Oklahoma had made calls in Bloomberg's name.

Bloomberg, former Mayor of New York City, confirmed the presentation of the media report in a statement. He stated that it was only when the reporter from "The Intercept" asked him and his team that the committed company was using prison labor. The cooperation with the company in question was ended "immediately". "We don't support this practice."

Earlier today, a news outlet accurately reported that a subcontractor for one of our vendors was using prison workers to make phone calls on behalf of my campaign. After learning this, we immediately ended our relationship with that company.

Michael Bloomberg officially entered the race for the Democratic presidential nomination for the 2020 election in November. He is considered one of the richest men in the world and is the owner of a media empire. According to the Reuters news agency, Bloomberg has spent more on campaigning since the start of its campaign than its competitors for the candidacy throughout the year.

Bloomberg's candidacy has been sharply criticized by democratic competitors. "We don't think billionaires have the right to buy elections," said left senator Bernie Sanders. "That's why multi-billionaires like Michael Bloomberg won't get very far in this election."

In surveys, Michael Bloomberg lags far behind other democratic applicants such as Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders and Elisabeth Warren.
