What do football and education policy have in common? Everyone wants to have a say, and everyone knows better. And so again in 2019, many self-proclaimed experts made suggestions as to what should change in German education policy. (For those in a hurry: Click here for the quiz)
For example this: Flags should fly in front of all schools, three at once: a flag of Germany, a flag of the respective federal state and the flag of the European Union.
Do you know who came up with this idea? No, not the AfD. Rather, she reacted slightly offended because she felt imitated, since she had already brought up almost the same suggestion. Some suspected that the flag thrust was a cheap trick to chase away the right-wing populist party.
Or was there a medium-sized flag distribution company that hoped for big money? Or the Ministry of Culture speculated on killing two birds with one stone with the idea?
Of course, a flag call also belongs to a flag. If all students have to compete outside, a) their movement is encouraged and b) the lack of teachers is alleviated. Because with the flag appeal, a single educator easily entertains an entire student body for at least half an hour.
No, in fact the proposal came from the student union from Baden-Württemberg. He did, however, go down with waving flags. Even the country's minister of culture, also from the CDU, considered other topics to be more important.
Do you know what other ideas about German education policy were there? And by whom? We prepared a little test.
