Two-headed snake causes a stir in India 1:07
(CNN) - A family in North Carolina thought they were preparing dinner, but there was something else in the oven than a frozen pizza.
Robert, Amber Helm's husband, went to preheat the oven on Monday night for what she thought was going to be a quiet dinner. Once the oven was heated, Robert stuffed a frozen pizza.
The Helm noticed smoke in the kitchen of their Wake Forest home before realizing that there was a snake in the oven, according to WRAL, a CNN affiliate.
The Helm family was surprised when they found a snake inside their oven.
"The oven started to smoke and I told my boys to 'back off' so I can make sure that a fire or something like that didn't happen," Amber Helm told WRAL. “I looked closely and said 'Oh my God! It is a snake.

The family does not store anything in the oven when it is not being used, so it never considered checking the interior before preheating it, according to Helm.
"The oven was dark and the snake was probably already dead from preheating," he told CNN. The last time the family used their gas oven was Christmas day to cook a ham.
"It came through the holes in the bottom that allow air flow," said Amber Helm. "We're still not sure how he got into the house, but we assume it was through our tracking space."

The Helms have two young children. His 3-year-old son shared his surprise while the 1-year-old boy was not sure what had happened.
"I immediately took them out of the house and took them to Applebee's while my husband stayed at home and got rid of the snake and began to ventilate the house and clean the oven," said Amber Helm.
The Helms moved into their home last January and said that the neighbors across the street own a horse farm and told them that they had never had problems like this before.
"I was dizzy and it was creepy," Robert Helm told WRAL. "There is nothing good in finding a smoked snake in your oven."
A local company will go to the Helm house next week to make sure it is snake free in the future.
