Syrian Arab Army units operating in the liberated countryside in Maarat al-Numan region responded to an attack by terrorist groups on military posts on the outskirts of the villages of Smakah and Al-Barsa in the southeastern countryside of Idlib.

A Sana correspondent reported that terrorist groups took advantage of the weather and fog to launch a large-scale attack on military points after they attacked with rocket-propelled grenades towards army points in the vicinity of the villages of Smakah and Al-Barsa of the city of Maarat al-Numan, where army units operating in the area responded to the attack and fought violent clashes with them that resulted in the destruction of a car bomb Two cars, including the dead and wounded, among the terrorists.

The reporter pointed out that the army units carried out concentrated strikes with rocket and artillery weapons on the locations of terrorist groups and their fortifications in the vicinity of Ma`rat al-Numan, the most prominent stronghold of terrorist organizations in the southeastern countryside.

The reporter stated that the army units carried out artillery and missile strikes on the axes and supply lines of the terrorists from the direction of Ma`rat al-Numan and Saraqib, and incurred losses of personnel and equipment.

The army units continue their operations in the southeastern countryside of Idlib to pursue the remnants of terrorist organizations, and during the past month they were able to purify more than 320 square kilometers and expel the (Jabhat al-Nusra Front) organization and the rest of the terrorist organizations from them, and enter more than forty towns and villages in the southern countryside of Idlib.
