Fatal car accident near Safed: A man in his 50s, a resident of Safed, was killed in a head-on collision between a car and a commercial vehicle tonight on Highway 89 near Safed. The driver of the commercial vehicle was seriously injured and the two children of the killed were moderately injured. The injured were evacuated to Ziv Hospital for medical treatment.

According to a preliminary investigation by police, at around 3am one of the vehicles swerved from its commuter lane to the opposite lane and then the collision occurred. The cause of the vehicle deflection is being investigated and the accident investigation is ongoing.

MDA paramedic Shimon Bismuth said: "When we arrived, we saw the two vehicles with serious injuries. One driver, a 51-year-old man, was caught in the driver's seat unconscious with a hard head injury. During the complex fire extinguishing operations, we provided him with medical treatment which included medication and ventilation. After the rescue operations, we continued the medical treatment but his condition was critical and in the end we had to determine his death. Three other injured, a 50-year-old man and 10-and-13-year-olds who were moderately injured, were treated at the scene by additional MDA teams and evacuated to the hospital.

Two weeks ago, a 40-year-old woman was killed in a car accident that occurred at the Brown Junction in the Golan Heights. Her 11-year-old daughter was critically injured and died from her wounds the next day at Rambam Hospital in Haifa. Three more people were injured in the minor to moderate accident.
