US Apple has responded to President Donald Trump's criticism by revealing details of the services it provides to the U.S. government and private actors to obtain customer information.
According to the company’s new semi-annual report on transparency published on its website about the number and type of US government requests, it received 3,619 account requests from the US government in the first half of 2019, which represents a 36 percent jump compared to the last six months.
The iPhone manufacturer said the requests included more than 15,301 client accounts, another record number, pointing out that account requests that are sent when law enforcement officials suspect an illegal activity usually searches for customer account details on iTunes .. The annual Apple report comes after Trump criticized her for refusing to allow the United States government access to information stored on iPhones used by killers, drug traffickers, and highly criminal elements.
According to the report, "Apple" provided the US government with at least some information about the account in question for 90 percent of these requests, which is an increase from 88 percent during the previous period.
Trump said in one of his tweets last Tuesday evening that the American tech giant should intervene when necessary to help the country.
Apple's new semi-annual transparency report indicates that it has been largely responsive to government requests for information.
