The European Union renewed its warning to the Turkish regime of any illegal activities to explore for oil and gas in the eastern Mediterranean, especially in Cypriot waters.
"All members of the international community should refrain from any action that might affect regional stability and security," he said, in a statement posted on the website of the European Union before the start of the international conference in Berlin to bring peace to Libya. The launch of new exploration works in the region affects this stability.
The European Union has previously announced that it will impose specific sanctions on the persons or entities responsible for drilling for unlicensed hydrocarbons in the Eastern Mediterranean or those involved in such activities.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan, head of the Turkish regime, rejected repeated European Union warnings and announced in a provocative move his intention to conduct gas exploration at sea, which Cyprus protested, explaining that some of these exploration works fall within the exclusive economic zone of the island.
