Beirut-Sana
The protests continued in Beirut and Saida today to demand the speedy formation of the government, the improvement of the living conditions, and the accountability of the corrupt.
In Beirut, hundreds of protesters gathered in front of the parliament’s entrance on Al-Baladiyah Street, amid a proliferation of riot police and the army.
The Lebanese National News Agency reported that a tear gas bomb had been launched, followed by stones thrown at the Internal Security Forces, but the protesters stopped the stone throwers and forced them to stop and not stir riots and exposure to the security forces.
Dozens of demonstrators also gathered in front of the Banque du Liban building in Hamra Street to protest the policy of the Central Bank and banks in general.
The agency noted that protesters were at dawn to ignite a belt of fire in front of the Electricity Company in Sidon, while the Lebanese army and security forces worked to maintain security and open roads that were blocked by protesters in front of citizens.
On the other hand, the agency said that the Lebanese discriminatory prosecutor, Judge Ghassan Aouidat, instructed the authorities concerned to release those arrested as a result of the riots that took place yesterday in the center of the capital, with the exception of those entitled to judicial warrants for other crimes.
The Lebanese Red Cross announced that 220 people were injured during the clashes yesterday between Lebanese security forces and rioters in Al-Najma Square in central Beirut.
Since October 17, Lebanon has witnessed demonstrations and protest actions calling for improving the living conditions, fighting corruption and holding the corrupt accountable.
