(CNN Radio Argentina) - The former president of the Argentine Republic, Mauricio Macri , was appointed as executive president of the FIFA Foundation, as confirmed exclusively by CNN Radio journalist, Hernán Castillo.

The ex-president will then hold a position in the international organization that was created in 2018 and is responsible for encouraging positive social change and rebuilding sports infrastructure in the world.

"It is a great pleasure and an honor to announce that Mauricio Macri will assume this position at the head of the FIFA Foundation," said the president of FIFA and part of the Board of the Foundation, Gianni Infantino.

I am very grateful to this show of confidence from FIFA and this recognition to our country. This is an additional new role that I will play with honor, without neglecting the commitment I assumed with the Argentines who chose us to continue representing them.

For his part, Macri was proud of the role he will play, according to the official FIFA website: “ It is an honor and a great satisfaction to have been appointed. I thank President Infantino for this show of confidence and for giving me the opportunity to combine my three passions : education , football and working for young people.

With great joy I want to tell you that FIFA has chosen me as the next executive president of the FIFA Foundation, the organization that seeks to generate positive social change through football and education.

The designation means the return of the former Head of State to football , after having been the highest authority of Boca Juniors between 1997 and 2005 and then turning to politics: first as head of Buenos Aires government and in the last four years at the Casa Rosada .

As Castillo, a CNN Deportes driver reported (7 pm to 9 pm), Macri will have as its main task in his new position "to cover expenses and promote women's and men's football among the youngest in South America."
