British filmmaker Sam Mendes won the "best director" Bafta on Sunday for his 1917 film, which won the Best Film award during the 73rd edition of the British Academy of Motion Picture and Television Awards.
Mendes, who took the Golden Globe in the same category a month ago , beat Martin Scorsese ( The Irish ), Todd Phillips ( Joker ), Quentin Tarantino ( Once Upon a Time in Hollywood ) and Bong Joon-ho ( Parasites ).
A while earlier, for the same film, the British Roger Deakins had won the Bafta award in the "best photography" category.

Deakins won the Mexican Rodrigo Prieto, who was nominated by The Irish ; Lawrence Sher, by Joker , Phedon Papamichel, by Le Mans '66 , and Jarin Blaschke, by The Lighthouse.
