The vocal accident that led her to cancel her tour in 2017 is also part of the production and is mentioned at the beginning, around the 23rd minute.

"The voice and emotion are connected in the human being in a way that you cannot understand until you can not use it," said Shakira, adding that he consulted with 5 doctors in three days who told him that he required an operation because it would be impossible get your voice back

Shakira delves into how he had to remain silent for weeks, how he had to communicate with his family with signs and signs and confessed that one of his children, Sasha, asked Santa Claus and prayed to God for his mother to recover her voice.

In 2017, the singer said on her Twitter account that this was one of the most difficult moments of her life.

“The doctors detected that there had been a hemorrhage in my right vocal cord. Since then I gave myself completely to the rest of the voice as recommended by the specialists in order to recover in time for the first concert in Cologne. Unfortunately the bleeding seems not to have reabsorbed yet and my nightmare continues. And I am currently in a very hard battle for my recovery, ”said the singer.

The Colombian granted an interview to Zona Pop CNN, the CNN pop culture podcast in Spanish, days before her presentation in the Super Bowl and the premiere of the HBO feature film in which she tells details of her injury and how she prepares for the Super Bowl

Pop Zone: With your “El Dorado” tour you were able to meet again with those fans who have followed you throughout your career. What moments do you remember from that tour that you have not counted?

Shakira: I think the movie shows very well how I experienced this tour, but what I remember most about that tour are the faces of the fans, how I recorded them, when I acted this time I had the feeling that time stopped during the Almost two hours I was on stage. And at that time I stopped looking at people's faces, their reactions ... their love fed me at a time when I needed it most when I lost my voice and each concert was the culmination of it.

Pop Zone: For you, the tour was a major challenge to what it means to prepare an extensive tour. You had to initially postpone because of a problem in the vocal cords. Did you feel any fear during that recovery period? What did you think?

Shakira: I used to assume that I would always have my voice. Having to contemplate the possibility that I could lose it made me question everything, and I confess that I was quite depressed. There were days when I didn't even get out of bed. Losing my voice was like losing all my identity.

Pop Zone: You are perhaps one of the first Latin singers to premiere a documentary of a worldwide tour and nothing more, nothing less than on the big screen. Now you take it to the small screen and many streaming devices thanks to HBO. What does it mean to you that this show now lives on a platform like this?

Shakira: HBO programming has always seemed to me from another level and very innovative for years — it has an elegance and a class, and I'm proud that a concert of mine is part of its catalog.

Pop Zone: When preparing a concert and choosing the setlist, what is the song that should always be?

Shakira: Whenever Wherever, Hips Dont Lie, and Wakawaka are never missing.

Pop Zone: Which is your favorite to perform? And, which one do fans ask for more?

Shakira: On this last tour, Anthology was the song that most connected to the public, every night seeing the faces and realizing what it meant to them, I saw smiles, I saw tears, sometimes both ... and I was excited to see that as a song that I wrote still has its own life through the love of the fans. I don't know which one they ask for the most! I believe that there will never be a total consensus, so it is fun to change the repertoire from tour to tour.

Pop Zone: The documentary premieres just before your presentation at the Super Bowl halftime show. It will take place in a city that, despite these days being very cold, the Latin heat lives from head to toe. You, as a Colombian, what does it mean for you to be at the event? How was the NFL approach to star in the show with Jennifer Lopez?

Shakira: For me it is an honor to be the first woman born outside the United States for more than 20 years to be invited to sing in such an emblematic event for the United States. And doing it next to another Latina, another strong woman, makes it even more special. The truth is that I have wanted to fulfill a dream for many years.

Pop Zone: How are you preparing for the Super Bowl? How do you manage to summarize your career and all your great successes in so few minutes?

Shakira: Summarize it and decide what to include in such a short time was the most difficult! The music and the choreography we have been doing for 2 months, do not imagine what it implies even if it is a short show to make all the preparations. It is a giant production.

Pop Zone: Do you remember the first Super Bowl halftime show you saw?

Shakira: No, but my favorites are those of Beyoncé and Bruno Mars.

HBO is part of WarnerMedia, parent company of CNN in Spanish.
