Las Vegas wedding chapels promote this day as a perfect memorable date to get married.

(CNN) - Today is a very special occasion: the date is a palindrome, which means it is the same when reading back and forth.

It is February 2, 2020 or 02/02/2020, both in MM / DD / YYYY format and in DD / MM / YYYY format. Just after 2 am, it was 02:02:20 on 02/02/2020.

This is the only time that date will occur this century.

The previous date of the palindrome in all formats occurred 909 years ago on 11/11/1111. The next one will arrive in 101 years on 12/12/2121 and after that there will be no other until 03/03/3030. The Mathematics Department of the Solihull School wrote on Twitter: “Today is a Palindrome day in all date formats (United Kingdom, USA, ISO). It is also a palindrome day of the year (33) and there are a number of palindrome days in the year (333). A unique day! ”

The Royal Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas promoted weddings on this “significant” date, noting that its two-year anniversary would fall on 2/2/22. "Two are the last symbolic number that represents you and your spouse."

It is also Super Bowl Sunday and Groundhog Day.

Jennifer Lopez will perform alongside Shakira in the Super Bowl halftime show.

On November 11, 2011 it caused a stir, when the clock struck 11:11:11 on 11/11/11. It was the only double-figure palindromic date and will not appear again in 100 years, in 2111.

However, it is not as perfect as 02/02/2020, because when using the full year, 2011, it ruins the symmetry.

Las Vegas chapels were full of people with couples who wanted to marry 11/11/11, with the "queen of nightlife" Tiffany Masters holding what she described as the largest reception in the world.

Verizon Wireless launched its Droid Razr at 11:11 on 11/11/11 and there was even a “11-11-11” movie about an American author plagued by strange events and constant sightings of the number 11.

Human brains are naturally inclined to look for patterns, and many consider those dates to be fortunate. Daniel Hardt, president of the Life Path Numerology Center in Indianapolis, called it a "powerful day."

In September there was a week of palindrome dates using the US format, if you eliminate 20- in the year. It was on 10/9/19, 9/11/19 and so on, until 9/19/19. But, of course, these only worked with the US MM / DD / YYYY format.

There was one of these every year since 2011, but this was the last of the century.

A palindrome is any word, phrase or sequence of numbers that reads the same forward or backward. Some examples in English are "mom", "race car" or "tacocat". The author James Joyce invented the "tattarrattat", which is supposed to be the sound of a knock on the door and the longest single-word palindrome in the Oxford English Dictionary.

Palindrome comes from the Greek words "palin", which means "again, back" and "dromos," which means "to run," according to Dictionary.com. So palindrome is a word or phrase that runs back on itself.
