(CNN) - Two people died Monday and a third person was injured after a shooting at a residence on the Texas A&M University-Commerce campus, the school said.

The shooting occurred at the Pride Rock residence, the school said in a Twitter post.

The injured victim was taken to a hospital, the school said.

The school canceled classes during the day and night, and encouraged residents and students to take shelter on site as a precaution. The university said the closure of the place was lifted just under two hours after an initial alert about an investigation into the residence.

Police are investigating, the school said.

The place is more than 100 miles northeast of Dallas.

Darran Simon of CNN contributed to this report.
