Retired from agriculture, 74-year-old Ms. Blein tweeted the following message "New Zealand killings: an eye for an eye ..." shortly after attacks on two Christchurch mosques by an Australian extremist, "self-proclaimed fascist" , in March 2019. These attacks left 49 people dead and around 20 seriously injured.
In a press release, the National Observatory against Islamophobia "welcomes the judgment rendered". "We note that the criminal court went beyond the requisitions of the Public Prosecutor, which demonstrates the reality of the seriousness of the remarks (...) made" by the defendant, supports the press release. The Rassemblement National (RN) group at the Brittany Regional Council had, at the time, condemned "with the utmost firmness the remarks made by Mrs. Catherine Blein on twitter and would like to recall that she was excluded from the National Rally and our political group in May 2017 ". It sits "as not registered in the regional assembly and its remarks are its only responsibility", had added the RN.
