Questioned by Le Point, Jean-Christophe Lagarde invokes Goebbels to defend himself

2020-02-13T22:20:46.403Z

The deputy of Seine-Saint-Denis and boss of the UDI Jean-Christophe Lagarde announced this Thursday, February 13, that he intended "to initiate legal proceedings " after the publication of a file of the Point questioning his practices when he was mayor of Drancy. "I can't find the words to express my anger at the pointless and grotesque front page of Le Point , in contradiction with the struggle of my whole political and personal life," he tweeted.

Le Point publishes in A its photo under the title " Communityism, pacts with thugs or Islamists - These elected officials who sold their soul ", as part of a file evoking a book to be published, written in a personal capacity by the journalist AFP Eve Szeftel, who was posted to Bobigny and is currently assigned to the AFP international economic desk. " I instructed my lawyer to initiate legal proceedings to restore my honor and the truth, " added Jean-Christophe Lagarde, mayor of Drancy from 2001 to 2017, who said in a press release " victim of manipulation too slanderous than grotesque, as if by chance one month before the municipal elections ”.

And, at the end of his press release, the deputy for Seine-Saint-Denis found nothing better than to refer to Joseph Goebbels, minister of propaganda for the Third Reich: " As Goebbels said," the more the lie the bigger, the more it passes ” , he concludes.

" Unfounded " Charges

He refuted accusations " more insane than baseless ", and " in contradiction with everything (he) achieved and defended in (his) political life ", from the memorial of the Jewish deportation in Drancy to his fight " against extremists to prevent them from forcibly taking the Drancy mosque ". In Drancy, the former mayor is the subject of an investigation for embezzlement of public funds after a complaint for the alleged employment of his wife Aude Lagarde as a parliamentary collaborator. The couple's home and the town hall were searched in February 2019 as part of an investigation by the National Financial Prosecutor's Office (PNF).

In the neighboring town of Bobigny, the UDI mandate was punctuated by the conviction for " violence in meetings " of the first deputy and an agent of the town. The city was pinned by the Regional Chamber of Accounts, in particular on a dozen irregular hirings including association leaders who, for some, supported the majority campaign. As in Drancy, an investigation, conducted by the PNF, was opened. The town hall and the homes of several elected officials were searched in May.
