LE FIGARO. - How did you live your years in the Obama team, a realistic president trying to limit the role of the United States abroad, when you advocated an interventionist approach?
Samantha POWER. - Obama was not at all to restrict the role of the United States! He thought that military force was being used too quickly, and I agreed. We both opposed the war in Iraq. Many key figures in his administration supported this war, such as Robert Gates and Hillary Clinton. But a handful of younger advisers supported his vision. The fact that we did not agree on Syria should not be exaggerated (Samantha Power supported a military option that Obama refused, editor's note) . It was a very difficult subject. I don't see myself as an interventionist, but as someone who believes in America's leadership and Obama absolutely believed in it. He considered that the international system was not working well,
