A year ago, many assumed that he would run as a district administrator. But things turned out differently: Thomas Holz applied again for the office of Mayor of Kochler.

Kochel am See - "It is a great honor for me to be able to work for my home community here," says Thomas Holz (44). “In addition, I would like to do a lot for our community and am very happy to be Mayor. That's why the answer wasn't difficult when the Kochler CSU asked me a year ago whether I wanted to run again. "

Wood has been in office for 13 years. A career in local politics was not in his cradle. After graduating from high school in Bad Tölz, she went to Bayreuth to study law and to Munich to complete a legal clerkship. There he worked as a lawyer and legal counsel.

"I think my father is interested in local politics," says Holz. Werner Holz, who died last year, was not only a district fire chief for 28 years, but also a long board member of the CSU Kochel.

He still remembers the call at the end of 2006, when Thomas Holz was asked whether he wanted to run as mayor: "At first I thought it was a joke." After further encouraging calls, the then 30-year-old had many conversations with his predecessors Sigi Zauner and Werner Englert as well as the long-standing Rathaus manager Hans Rauch: "It was important for me to find out whether I was up to the task." Despite three opposing candidates, Holz made it into the town hall in the first ballot - at that time as the youngest Mayor of southern Bavaria. On May 1, 2007, he took over from Werner Englert, who had resigned for health reasons.

A lot has changed since then with Holz - also privately: in 2015 he married and now has two children with his wife Veronika: Alexander (3 years) and Valerie (9 months). "There is nothing better than coming home and looking into the eyes of our children," says Holz. "The two give a lot of strength and a deeper meaning to life." Incidentally, they also let some annoyances from the work fly away quickly. Spending time with the family for his often stressful job. "It wouldn't work without my wife's backing anyway," says Holz. He has been the deputy district administrator since 2014 and has also been the CSU district chairman for almost a year.

When asked about the special events in the past 13 years, the mayor does not have to think long: "These are the rather small moments in which I was able to help people with a wide variety of concerns." This inspires each time anew.

His biggest project was undoubtedly the successful preservation of the Trimini: night-long study of files, numerous difficult negotiations and many council meetings required a lot of energy: "I am very happy that this was successful", Holz looks back

Other things have also been implemented since 2007: the refurbishment of the train station, the Walchensee tourist information office, the town hall, the police and rescue station, broadband coverage, the modernization of the elementary school and the daycare center, and the cycle path between Ried and Pessenbach.

CSU Kochel wants to build on its track record

The head of the town hall emphasizes that these have always been joint efforts. Another key to success was the good cooperation in the community council: "The 472 meetings that I was allowed to lead were always based on respectful treatment and a true team spirit in order to make a difference for our community." I can go on like this after the election.
