Hundreds of protesters of yellow jackets demonstrated in the streets of Paris today, despite the French government's decision to ban gatherings of more than one hundred people in light of fears of the spread of Corona virus.
"The security forces arrested 17 people and interfered after clashes on Aragao Avenue in," AFP quoted French police as saying in a statement.
This demonstration poses a new challenge to the decisions of the government of French President Emmanuel Macron and his police, which issued an order to prevent the "yellow jackets" from gathering in places that include public institutions, the Champs Elysées, and neighborhoods that contain supermarkets.
Today's demonstrations are part of the weekly demonstrations organized by the "Yellow Jackets" movement every Saturday since November 2018, which increased its momentum recently after opponents of the project to reform pension systems and transport sector unions.
The French authorities have faced these protests with excessive repression, resulting in many casualties and the arrest of thousands.
