The European Union called on the international community today to provide urgent support to Iran to help it combat the Corona Virus in light of the unjust US measures it is exposed to.
The European Union "supports the provision of humanitarian aid to Iran, as well as Venezuela, which are under severe economic sanctions," in reference to the unfair US measures imposed against the two countries, France Press quoted European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell as saying during a CCTV news conference.
Borrell said that the shipments of food, medicine and medical equipment to the two countries will not be affected by these sanctions and said: "We will support requests for assistance because the two countries are in a very difficult situation for reasons, the most important of which are US sanctions that prevent them from obtaining income by selling their oil."
In May 2018, US President Donald Trump announced his country’s withdrawal from the nuclear agreement signed between Iran and the five plus one group in 2015 and the reintroduction of sanctions against Tehran despite opposition from the European Union. Washington also imposed unilateral sanctions against Venezuela mainly targeting the oil sector and freezing its assets abroad.
