The postponement of the Games is full of economic ramifications, both for the sponsors of the event and also the media that have the rights to televise them.

The organizers of Tokyo 2020 indicated in December that the cost of hosting the event was US $ 12.3 billion, and according to the Reuters agency, that figure does not include the cost of moving the marathon and athletic march events from Tokyo to Sapporo to avoid the summer heat. That decision was made in October 2019.

The Tokyo National Stadium alone, where the opening and closing ceremonies will be held, cost $ 1.4 billion.

In addition, massive investments have been made in Japan to improve transportation routes, build enclosures, and remodel tourist sites to receive the 90 million visitors that Prime Minister Shinzo Abe expected by 2020.
