The 5 new Netflix series for this quarantine 1:05

(CNN) - The CNN Entertainment team is here to help those who stay “safer at home” during the coronavirus pandemic.

Here are some of the longest series to enjoy in quarantine:

"ER"

George Clooney, Eriq La Salle, Sherry Stringfield and Anthony Edwards in "ER." (NBC / Courtesy Everett Collection).

15 seasons (331 episodes) = 242.73 hours of television (14,564 minutes)

I recently did this marathon. It is bold. Brave. It is an inducer of hypochondria. Above all, however, re-viewing this talented hospital drama will captivate you, whether it's the first time you see it or the fifth. The characters are diverse, the stories were innovative for the time, and the writing is timeless. - Sandra González

"Mad Men"

Elisabeth Moss as Peggy Olson.

7 seasons (92 episodes) = 75.8 hours of television (4,548 minutes)

Like its central character, advertising executive Don Draper (Jon Hamm), "Mad Men" is melancholic and mysterious. I was hooked on every scene of its seven seasons (2007-2015), trying to crack the code for creator Matthew Weiner's ubiquitous dark lighting and frequent significant pauses. This is the kind of show you drink like Scotch, as you watch very flawed men and women chain smoking and drinking through in the 1960s. Attention to detail alone makes “Mad Men” worthy of watch, but Elisabeth Moss in her role as top leader in the role of Peggy Olson is really justification enough to watch the series. - Megan Thomas

You can watch it on Netflix

'Nip / Tuck' and 'Justified'

6 seasons each (78 episodes and 100 episodes, respectively; varied running time) = 131.2 hours of television (7,872 minutes)

In addition to "The Shield", the "Nip / Tuck" series - which premiered in 2003 - was one of the most important shows in terms of transforming FX into a showcase for avant-garde and premium-style dramas, as well as marking a breakthrough. for Ryan Murphy (who has since done "American Horror Story" "Glee", etc.) as author and producer. Dark and morbidly funny, the show starring Dylan Walsh and Julian McMahon as a pair of lifelong friends turned into successful plastic surgeons, and Joely Richardson as the wife of the former. The episodes begin with them asking a prospective patient, "What you don't like about yourself." Despite periodic bouts of excess over the past few seasons, overall, there were plenty of good things in this provocative drama.

"Justified," meanwhile, portrays Timothy Olyphant in the title role as a deputy sheriff in the United States with an attitude of better apologizing than permission, and with a childhood friend (played by Walton Goggins) who became criminals. With serial stories and an incredible group of supporting actors in his Kentucky setting, it felt like a very modern twist on police drama mixed with a western. As an added benefit, the program also delivered a top-notch finish. (Olyphant, by the way, portrayed a man of the law in another marathon-worthy drama: HBO's "Deadwood.") - Brian Lowry

Watch both shows through FX on Hulu.

Veronica Mars

4 seasons (72 episodes) and 1 movie = 53.35 hours of content (3,201 minutes)

With the world seemingly spinning out of control, we need common sense, with a sarcastic side, which is Veronica Mars. Initially focused on a high school student-turned-private investigator (played by Kristen Bell), "Veronica Mars" will give you everything you need: drama, suspense, comedy, and best of all, the relationship between her and Logan. Set in Southern California, in the fictional coastal city of Neptune, it is a mix between the best parts of "Beverly Hills 90201", "Laguna Beach" and "Murder She Wrote". The series, which aired between 2004 and 2007, was so beloved that viewers literally wanted it to re-exist with a Kickerstarter campaign. First with a 2014 movie and then Hulu revived the show with a fourth season in 2019. Relax and combine wit with Veronica for a much-needed escape. - Lisa Respers France

Watch it on Hulu.

"Sex and the City"

6 seasons (94 episodes) and 2 movies = 52.1 hours of content (3,126 minutes)

If you are a fan of romantic comedies, then sit on your couch and make yourself a cocktail because this series is for you. The show, which chronicles the romantic lives of four very different girlfriends in New York, put women everywhere to choose whether they were Carrie, Charlotte, Samantha, or Miranda during their original broadcast between 1999-2004. "Sex and the City" also inspired two feature films, but don't ask about that third film. -. Chloe Melas (CNN, like HBO, is owned by WarnerMedia)

Check it out on Amazon Prime and HBO Now.

"Supernatural"

15 seasons (320 episodes so far) = 224 hours of content (13,440 minutes)

In fifteen seasons, "Supernatural" has become television's Solid Path of the Pacific. And it comes with similar ups and downs. Highs: The two monster hunter brothers at the center of this drama are easy to love, bring lightness to a dark premise at times, and are attractive. The set of characters that surround them during the course of the show is charming. And you might be pleasantly surprised by how quickly the series turns into more than just colliding things at night. Bass: There are some slower snippets along the way, but creative breaks are part of any worthy journey to television. "Supernatural", now in its final season (the current season is not broadcast online, but can be purchased), is one of the television productions that ends amid the spread of the coronavirus. This happened when the cast and crew still had approximately two episodes of the series left to film. So while we're not sure when the show will come to a proper conclusion, once you've consumed over 300 episodes, you're already a loyal member of the global fandom known as #SPNFamily and for that there really is no end. - Sandra Gonzalez

Watch it on Netflix.

Great character-based comedies

13 seasons (112 collective episodes so far) = 46.83 hours of content (2,810 minutes)

I generally don't like shows that need a lot of special effects, or characters that live in space. I just can't handle them. What I do love are the character-based shows, with small actors and very good writing. Here are some of my favorites:

"Catastrophe" (Watch it on Amazon Prime)

During the 24 recorded episodes in London, an American named Rob takes a business trip and meets Sharon, an Irish teacher, in a bar, and they have a night of sex. That becomes a matter of a week and when Rob returns home, Sharon tells him that she is pregnant. So they get married and live together as a family. It is sweet, sad, fun and real.

"Casual" (Watch it on Hulu)

Tommy Dewey stars as Alex Cole and stars in this 44-episode Hulu series focused on dating and life with his sister and teenage niece. Michaela Watkins plays Dewey, a recently divorced sister who is moving. This series is a hidden gem.

"Better Things" (Watch it on FX on Hulu; airing a new season now)

It seems that many people are discovering the genius of the creator and star of the show, Pamela Adlon. She plays an actress and single mother who works and raises her three children, has a selfish ex-husband, an elderly mother, and some unique best friends. She is so real that this series touches your heart.

“Forever” (Watch it on Amazon Prime)

Part of the appeal of this show was the mystery that led to the launch. I don't want to talk too much, but Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph play June and Oscar, who have lived through their married version of Groundhog Day until a series of events shake things up. It is a one season delight. - Marianne Garvey.

Bones

12 seasons (246 episodes) = 180.4 hours of television (10,824 minutes)

This police-criminal series shares a lot of DNA (pun) with others — there's always a murder case of the week — lots of scientific talk and a quirky set of characters. But what distinguished this series for 12 seasons was the magic of the two protagonists: Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and Seely Booth (David Boreanaz), who had a chemistry (science pun # 2) that has no equal in this gender. This choice is good for several reasons. If you saw the series during its original run, the replay is easy, enjoyable, and just as fun as you saw it the first time. For newbies, the show has fewer quiet moments in writing than you'd expect from a show that lasted so long. - Sandra Gonzalez

Watch it on Hulu.

Grand total, for those who keep score: over 1,006 hours (or 60,385 minutes) of television

Series
