(CNN Spanish) - In the midst of the coronavirus emergency, the government of Ecuador launched a free digital application called “SaludEc” to attend to possible cases of coronavirus and patients with symptoms. The application, according to the authorities, was developed by Ecuadorian professionals and is available for the Android system and soon on the IOS system.

“Through this tool we will contact each one of you, we will have as government a key information on the health status of all Ecuadorians, which in turn will help us make the best decisions, always preserving the privacy of the information to which each one of you is entitled ”, explained President Lenín Moreno during a national network.

During the presentation of the application, the Minister of Telecommunications, Andrés Michelena, indicated that this app has 6 menus, within which the coronavirus option has priority. "If you have difficulty breathing, I give yes to the option, at this time the system communicates it with 911. If the symptoms are not severe, the app will give you another indication, according to the protocol to be followed by the Ministry of Health," he added. Michelena.

The Minister of Health, Juan Carlos Zevallos, highlighted that this app complements the 171 call or call center service to assist citizens electronically and avoid congestion in hospital centers. He insisted that this mobile platform does not replace the call center where you can receive the telephone attention of a doctor.
