The main thing was to respect tradition. A handful of Franciscans therefore carried out, on Friday, the Way of the Cross in the Old City of Jerusalem confined and forbidden access to non-residents.

The brothers, official guardians of the holy places and present for eight centuries in the Holy Land, followed the complete route of Via Dolorosa, which ends at the Holy Sepulcher with the fourteenth station on the presumed tomb of Jesus. In the deserted and silent alleys, the Israeli security forces outnumbered the residents huddled in homes where large families live, often in difficult conditions.
