Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte announced today that his government has decided to extend general isolation measures throughout the country to contain the Corona virus until May 3, although a few stores will be allowed to reopen as of April 14th.
"This is a difficult decision, but it is necessary and I take full responsibility for it," Conte told Reuters at a news conference, adding that he would exclude from the extension the closure the role of selling books, the role of selling stationery and the stores that sell children's clothes, and that it could reopen its doors on April 14.
The Italian health authorities announced earlier today, that 570 new deaths from the Corona virus are registered in the country, bringing the total to 18,849 cases, as it remains at the forefront of the world countries in terms of the number of deaths from the virus.
