Coronavirus: with 301 deaths, decrease in the daily death toll in Spain

2020-04-28T10:56:24.325Z

A positive sign of the evolution of the disease on the spot is that the number of cases is now lower every day than the number of people

Spain reported on Tuesday 301 deaths from the new coronavirus pandemic in 24 hours. The total number of deaths caused by the disease is officially 23,822, the Ministry of Health announced. This total is subject to caution, the balance sheet of victims in retirement homes being undervalued. For Monday, the death toll rose to 331.

While Spain has been subjected since March 14 to a very strict confinement which has been extended until May 9, the government of Pedro Sanchez must adopt on Tuesday its deconfinement plan which it intends to launch from mid-May .

The number of cases confirmed in the country after a PCR test (to find out if the virus is present in the body of the person tested) now stands at 210,773 while the number of people healed is 102,548.

A “slow and progressive” deconfinement

The authorities have been highlighting for a few days the fact that the number of new daily cases is now lower than that of new healings, which illustrates the positive development of the epidemic.

After six weeks of extremely strict confinement, the government eased the rule slightly on Sunday by allowing children to go out for an hour a day like in other European countries. If the evolution of the epidemic continues in this way, individual physical activities and walks between members of the same household will in turn be authorized from next Sunday.

Pedro Sanchez, however, has repeatedly warned that deconfinement will be "slow and gradual" in the third country most bereaved by the pandemic after the United States and Italy, despite forecasts of a severe recession.

After multiplying tests to detect Covid-19, Spain launched a large serological study on Monday with 60,000 to 90,000 people to estimate the number of Spaniards who have developed antibodies against the virus.
