Dachau - No concerts, no live performances, no new CD - everything has stood still at the Dachau boys' band since the outbreak of the corona pandemic and the associated exit restrictions. "But we want to remain present and please the population with music," said Chairman Tilo Ederer and his team.

On Maundy Thursday, on the initiative of the long-standing city councilor Silvia Kalina and with the approval of district administrator Stefan Löwl, he started a project that was so well received that it not only continued over the Easter holidays, but now takes place regularly every Sunday: musicians from the various ensembles play in Various castings in front of the Friedrich Meinzolt House in Dachau-Ost: in front of the main entrance, on the side and on the back of the building, so that all residents and staff can enjoy the music.

Silvia Kalina, whose mother lives in the Protestant retirement and nursing home, may not visit her mother, but can still be close to her and enjoy the wonderful music with her - if not physically, but in her mind.

Not only the residents and their relatives are thankful. "The feedback is great, the calls of thanks go to our hearts," Tilo Ederer describes the emotions at the outdoor concerts.

The musicians of the boys' band are no strangers to the Friedrich-Meinzolt-Haus; they played there regularly before the Corona pandemic. Just like in the Caritas retirement home in the Marienstift Dachau on Schillerstrasse, where performances by the Dachau musicians are also planned in the near future. Tilo Ederer and his team try to make the best of the current situation.

Nevertheless, the chairman cannot hide his disappointment with the many canceled performances. Neither the big band, the young orchestra or the youth symphony orchestra, nor any other group that has been practicing for months for the dates in 2020 can show their talent.

At the end of April, the big band would have performed with the well-known Finnish techno and jazz musician Jimi Tenor on the occasion of the Kemptener Kulturtage. At the same time, the joint CD, made possible by the crowdfunding of Volksbank-Raiffeisenbank Dachau, would have been released, which would have been presented at this festival (we reported).

Ederer will also be sorely missed the joint appearances at the Dachau Volksfest with his friend Ammer musicians and the Ludwig Thomas musicians. And that the French friends from Léognan cannot come to the festival this year and that the return visit to France in October is probably in the stars, too, is in the stomach of those responsible for the Dachau boys' band.

However, they still don't want to let them get them down; they are now working hard on alternatives. In order to reach even more Dachau audiences, those responsible are considering appearances in various suitable places in Dachau. There may be a performance on the Ludwig-Thoma-Wiese - with the audience in the car, in the style of a drive-in cinema. So there would be no contact with the audience.
