A legionnaire was "killed in action" on Monday during an operation to combat jihadist armed groups in Mali, the Elysee announced, adding that he was from the same regiment as the legionnaire who died on Friday.
The 1st class legionnaire Kévin Clément, belonged to the 1st foreign cavalry regiment of Carpiagne (Bouches-du-Rhône). This death brings to 43 the number of French soldiers killed in the Sahel since the start of the French intervention in 2013, according to a count made from figures published by the general staff.
"I bow with deep sadness to the memory of the first class legionnaire Kévin Clément, who died in combat on May 4, 2020. My thoughts are with his family and his brothers in arms" said General Lecointre, chief of army staff. "The mission continues" also indicates, after paying tribute to the legionnaire, the Chief of the Land Staff.
