(CNN) - A model from the Trump administration projects an increase in the number of cases and deaths from coronavirus in the coming weeks, nearly doubling to approximately 3,000 deaths daily in the US. USA by June 1, according to an internal document obtained by The New York Times.

The projections are based on models from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which were collected in tables and charts by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

An administration official confirmed to CNN the authenticity of the report obtained by the newspaper, which was distributed among the relevant agencies over the weekend. The official cautions that the numbers are projections at this time.

When asked for comment, the White House said in a statement that the document obtained by the newspaper had not been seen by the coronavirus task force.

"This is not a White House document, nor has it been submitted to the coronavirus task force, nor has it been subjected to an interagency investigation. These data do not reflect any of the models made by the working group or the data that the working group has analyzed.

The President's staggered guidelines for opening the United States again are a scientific approach that the federal government's top health and infectious disease experts agreed on.

The health of the American people remains President Trump's top priority and that will continue as we monitor states' efforts to ease the restrictions, "said White House deputy press secretary Judd Deere.

The new revelation comes as states begin to reopen their economies this month despite warnings from public health experts.
