COUNTERPOINT - A second round in June? Concerns about a second wave continue.


The municipal calendar series is far from over. Whenever there seems to be a consensus, arguments to the contrary come back.

Thus, a few days ago, the organization of a second round at the end of June seemed established. The outgoing mayors, well placed to be re-elected, were impatient to leave an extended in-between; and the macronists, eager to inaugurate a new act of the quinquennium, wanted as quickly as possible to turn the page of an election which was unfavorable to them; and which would be even more so in September when the economic downturn will produce all its social effects.

Going then for June? The government is preparing for it. But already, concerns are coming back. Starting with that of a second wave of the Covid-19 which would force the return to strict confinement. Given the delays between the decision and the holding of the ballot, the executive fears a different footing similar to that of March 15 when the invitation to go to vote had coincided
